Small dog training is always a difficult choice to make but is essential for your pet’s development. If you do not train your dog during their childhood you may regret it for the coming years while cleaning up after them all around the house. Small dog training needs a lot of patience and devotion. During the early stages of life dogs do not possess a developed sense of right from wrong so it becomes even more difficult to make them learn.

Small dog training should be started at an early age and on a raised surface. You may already have a picnic table to begin training your puppy. This will increase his concentration and he will start listening to you obediently. After you’ve spent some time training in this manner he will begin follow your commands at ground level.

So they can see the handler’s face, and(2.) to stay out from under their looming handler. Stand up straight, don’t hover over your dog.Dogs express dominance by looming – your small dog may find you very intimidating when you bend over him or reach over his shoulders.

Sit, squat or kneel, keeping your upper body straight or -especially important on recalls- leaning slightly backward. You will appear much more inviting and friendly!

 

 

By following a good small dog training program you will learn how to understand the ways dogs communicate with each other. With your understanding of a dog’s point of view, you can avoid common training mistakes (such as treating your dog as if he were human), and have good results much more easily and quickly.

The -Down- Command

 

For this puppy obedience training command show your puppy the treat to get his attention. Now, you’ll want to say “down” and move the treat towards the floor slowly. Only if needed, you can apply slight pressure to his shoulders to help him down. If you see that he begins to lie down even for a second or two give him the treat and a great deal of praise. As your puppy begins to make this a normal routine you can stretch out the time before giving him the treat.

 

So what is the right way to do puppy obedience training? Should you hire a professional or attempt to DIY? The truth is, it just isn’t that hard to train your dog when using the right techniques, and doing so yourself can save you some serious cash.

 

To do this puppy obedience training command make sure your puppy is in the “down” position and then say “stand” and lift the treat forward and up in front of him. If you need to help him into position. The moment he stands give him lots of praise and the treat. Again, the more routine this becomes you can make the time longer that he has to stand to get the treat.

 

The -Heel- Command.

 

For instance, don’t say “come” one time and “heel” the next, as your dog will not know what to do. Sounds obvious, but an important point nonetheless.

 

 

If you don’t have a treat then they won’t obey. For this reason clicker training is something many people like to do, because instead of giving them food you just click the clicker every time they do something good.

 

This works because the dog will come to associate the clicker with something good, and pretty soon will only look for that sound as opposed to a treat. The reason this is more effective than just praising them is that dogs hear you talking all the time, and therefore they won’t necessarily associate you praising them with something good.

 

However, since they will only hear the clicker when they’ve done something right, they will instantly know it’s a good thing and will start to listen for it after obeying; it basically takes the place of a treat. Sounds a little far-fetched, but using a clicker is very popular for one reason-it works.

 

Make sure not to go too long per session, and a couple brief sessions work more effectively than having 1 long one with puppy obedience training. Younger dogs don’t have much of an attention span and keeping it short helps them focus better.

Puppy crate training is a relatively easy method to housetrain most dogs that works well with both puppies and adults-with little, hot-wired dogs, big subdued dogs, and every kind in between. It’s called the cage or crate training method, which is based very simply on the fact that the average dog does not like to mess near where he eats and sleeps.

The first step to avoid puppy crate training problems is to pick out a crate that is the correct size. Finding the right size is easy. Just find a crate that is large enough for her to stand up and turn around in, anything more than that and she will use the other end to potty on. Therefore, defeating the purpose of using the crate to help with potty training. Dog’s have a natural instinct to not mess their sleep quarters.

When first beginning puppy crate training, the little one may protest at first by whining or barking. Eventually, he will be able to stay comfortably in the crate for longer and longer periods of time. Start with 10 minutes at a time, and eventually, you can gradually increase up to two hours. However, a puppy should not be left in the crate for an extended amount of time, usually no more than three to four hours.

The first step of puppy crate training involves introducing your puppy to the crate. If you have purchased a vari-kennel type of crate, like the ones used for airline travel, start by taking the crate apart.
