Any tips for obedience training my puppy at home?
September 4th, 2009
I have had my cocker spaniel/ cavalier king charles spaniel for 3 weeks now. He knows his name and he almost knows how to sit but I need to teach him to "come" because he likes to run outside and i live near a busy road in an apartment. We are trying to leash train him also on daily walks to exercise him but I would also like him to learn to stay by my side with out a leash. I am just asking for tips for obedience training at home only, the classes I have looked into are too expensive and for now I just want to work on basic commands. Also, any tips for chewing on things while he is teething? he also like to chew on my hair and rip it out my head and chew fingers.
I would appreciate any POSITIVE and SERIOUS advice.
Thanks a bunch.
i do agility with my dog and the first thing we learned at our class was that treats can get a dog to learn anything. treat them for anything and everything he does when u ask him to. even if u have to force him to do it and make a big fuss and act really happy. to train him to come put him on a leash and walk to the end of it and then squat down to his level and say come and then his name. if he doesn’t react tug gently on his leash and call him again and make a big fuss when he comes. work on training two or three times a day but never work on anything for more than three minutes because if the dog isn’t getting something he will pick up on ur disapointment and stress and then dread the time when u train him and also three minutes id long enough to ask a dog to focus on only you but not much longer. u need to make sure that he always associates you with lots of treats and petting if he does what you ask. as soon as he gets good on a leash you can really begin to train him. good luck

well alot of puppys will bite and chew on fingers and hair but if u tell them no everytime they do it then they’ll learn not to do it any more … also if u want him to come to you then be strict! you need to be strict with your dog or else it will NOT learn a thing and make sure to yell at him whenever he gets close to the road or out of your boundries …..
good luck =]
