I have a small chihuahua mix, and i was just wonder if its too late to potty train him!
He is 3 years old!
And is there any tips and tricks to potty train dogs ![]()
some dogs yes and some dogs no.it depends if they have ever had training.i have had dogs many of different ages and some were trainable and some were not but i will tell you this.if he makes a mistake in the house DO NOT clean it with bleach, bleach smells like ureine to them, clean to you but pee to them.after he eats put him out 15 mins after he eats/drinks,leave him out for45 mins at a time.when he does something out side give him prase and a treat.when he does something in the house DO NOT hit him but in a firm voice tell him he’s bad such as,"what did you do","no","oh my".at night stop feeding him at 10:00.put him out before bed and put him out when you get up.do not over feed him or he’ll poop everywhere.for samll dogs a good size meal 3 times a day.try this and see what happens and if you need more help you know how to reach me.

Yes you can train them, I adopted a pit that was 3 or 4 had never been inside a house in her life, It took us about a year to get it perfect and one new living room carpet, but we did it, walk him at normal times praise him for going outside, give treats. Never hit him for a mess in the home, if you catch him in the act stop him, and take him out side, kennel at night and when you are not home.

You should try walking the dog every 30 minutes (if you are able to) and give it lots of praise and a treat. If it goes to the bathrooom inside, make sure you tell him what a bad dog he is and don’t pet or pay attention to him for a while. But whatever you do, don’t smash his nose into it, it can make him soo sick

It is harder when they are older but your dog isn’t too old yet. Just do the regular training thing as far as when you feed him wait about 20 minutes and then take him outside and when he poops praise him like there ain’t no hell. Then when you take him inside give him a goodie and praise him some more. Give him some water after that and wait another 20 or so minutes and take him out and when he pees praise him again. Bring him in and give him a goodie and more praise. Just keep repeating this and it should work. While you are training him you must only give him water at intervals so that you can show him what is to be done once he has to go. After he is trained then you can keep a water bowl down for him. Good Luck

Sure you can still train him – in fact it’s easier because he has bladder control, unlike young puppies.
There are no tricks, it takes observation and consistency on your part. While you’re training you need to keep him in the room with you so you can keep an eye on him. Take him out when he shows signs of restlessness or just hasn’t been out for a long time. All dogs give signals of some sort, some are subtle, you need to know your dog’s. You have to go out with him, say "go pee" and the very second he does, give him lots and lots of praise, then come right back in. This way he learns to differentiate between play time outside and potty time.
If he has an accident, quietly clean it up unless you catch him in the act, then say no firmly, take him out and praise if he finishes outside.
Dogs learn very quickly through lots of positive reinforcement, and by not giving him the opportunity to make mistakes, you don’t need to correct him. While you’re gone, you will have to put him in a crate until he’s reliably house trained.
