Could I toilet train my 2yo using those puppy training pads?
September 7th, 2009
You know the ones you use to house train a puppy, he is a terrier and pees everywhere anyway.
I’m talking about my 2yo son. My dogs were toilet trained by 8 weeks old, come on get with it.
Lenna, no need for the stars, I can figure out what you wrote there. I am not a moron I am university educated just having trouble toilet training my child. How about if you don’t like my Q don’t answer it.
Absolutely! I let my 2yo son run around nekkid and when he has to go he just runs over to the puppy pad and has at it. Works well for us!

Yes thats how I trained my son. Just slowly move it to the bathroom.
Good luck and if he goes on the floor rub his nose in it.

When you toilet train that means you’re training the child to go in the toilet not on some dog pad. If you train your son to go on the dog pad then you’ll later have to train him to go in the potty. Sorry but that makes no sense to me. I’m sure your son is waaaaay more intelligent than you give him credit for.
Edit: Here’s my input on the matter of training. First and foremost it’s commonly known that boys take longer to train than girls. So age two may be too young for him to take on this challenge. And second of all don’t stress over not training him yet. I suggest you take a break from it all and then in another few months try again. Training a child to use the potty can be frustrating for both you and him. It’s important, though, that you not allow him to be aware of your frustration. Keep your approach very non chalant. Don’t scold (not that you do), don’t react negatively in any form whether it be body language, frowning, sighing, or verbal. If he starts to go in his pants pick him up and encourage him to finish in the potty. Do this even if he already went. Another thing is to time when he goes such as after a meal, early in the morning, etc. and try to sit him on the toilet during those times. Make it a fun special time for him while he’s sitting there. I used to read a book to my own child on potty training with lots of pictures of children learning to potty. I’d also offer her something cold such as a popsicle or ice I’d crush into soft shavings to make her pee. It all worked out fine and it will work for both of you, too. As I said give it up for a few months. Or maybe you can try my suggestions first and if he’s still not interested in learning then give up for a while. Keep in mind he’ll eventually get it. Stay calm and enjoy these little milestones in your child’s life. Children grow much too quickly. One day you’ll look back and wish he was this age again.

What will you give him as a reward? A bone? It’s a child, not a dog.
