Let’s be clear from the start. A potty is not used when potty training puppies. What we are talking about is house training your puppy so that it eliminates outdoors or in a designated indoor area rather than anywhere in the home.

You can start potty training a puppy the moment it enters your house. The most ideal spot for your puppy to eliminate would be outside in the yard. Choose an accessible area that is conveniently not so far or near and does not annoy the neighbors or your family.

It would also be better if you it choose the area. Bring your puppy out on a leash, walk it around and let it choose the place where he will urinate or defecate. If he has found it, stand quietly as he does his thing. Never forget to praise him and continue bringing him there regularly.

The first and most important part of the potty training puppies process, is that you should have a good schedule. You do not want your puppy to get confused with what you are doing. Dogs are good time keepers, just like babies. If you wake a dog at a certain time every morning to do its business, it will start to wake up on time every morning.

There are some important strategies for success for potty training puppies. Get it wrong and you will take much longer to have a well trained dog (if it ever happens at all) but get it right the first time and this process will just breeze by.

Potty training puppies is an around the clock job at first because puppies have to go often. Therefore don’t just put them in a crate or someplace and forget about them; a good rule of thumb is to let them out every 2 hours.

Also remember to clean it up right away so that they can no longer smell the area where they went, because if they do they might get the message that it’s acceptable for them to go there again. This is the right way to go about potty training puppies and get a well behaved dog quickly.
